Entangled with nature, rooted in community
Fogo Island Inn is more than just somewhere to stay – it’s a place with purpose. The community-centred social enterprise is an initiative of Shorefast, a Canadian charity that is forging a new path at the intersection of business, philanthropy and local economic development. All operating surpluses are reinvested into the community through programmes and initiatives. As you enjoy the property’s all-inclusive hospitality, you are contributing to Shorefast’s vision of prosperous economies that serve local people, nature and culture.
When the cold settles in, Fogo Island turns inward. The ponds that dot its interior freeze over, the forests go quiet under snow, and life moves into the woods and barrens. Winter here is not a season to wait out but one to step into, with ways of being outside passed down through generations of Islanders. Winter offers an array of outdoor activities, including ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
Stand-out Experience:Shed Party
In Newfoundland, sheds aren’t just for storing tools and lumber. They’re where shed parties happen, with neighbours gathering to socialize and share stories over food, music and laughter. The Shed at Fogo Island Inn is our take on that tradition: a family-style dinner inspired by local flavours, with menus that feature cod, crab and other seasonal seafood, and an evening that welcomes guests to connect through conversation.
